Designing 3-D Interactive Tool for Exploring the Genetic Diversity of World’s 10,000 Bird Species

The 3D interactive visualization shows world birds species in 27 orders. The visualization is created in real time from a listing of the birds send to a server in spreadsheet format. The demo will online shortly. In the meantime you can download 3 files HTML file, 3D visualization and text file

Instructions for setup and playback: You can run the demo from a desktop folder that contains the 3 files. The first time around, you will need to be online in order to download automatically the 3D Life Player from Dassault Systems.
Step 1- Open index3.html in your web browser, for example, Internet Explorer. index3.html will trigger the plugin download and start index3.vmo that contains the 3d interactive visualization. Index3.vmo reads the dataset of birds2.doc.
Step 2 - Allow a few minutes in order to build a 3d visualization of a large dataset, 10 000 birds. Left Mouse click inside the 3D scene in order to activate the interface.
Step 3- Roll over your mouse in order to read the names of the species. Use the interactive camera Camera Controls -On your keyboard, use arrow keys to move around the data set - Use PageUp and PageDown to zoom in and out.
